Effective Treatment for Shoulder and Neck Pain at OS Fitness Injury/Recovery Clinic

Client’s Challenge:

A client came to me complaining of shoulder pain that extended up to the neck when they moved their arm away from the body—a common movement in their job as a hairdresser.

Our Approach:

Upon assessing their movement and muscle activity, it became clear that the muscles weren’t working together correctly. Given their profession, this was likely due to overuse of the muscles that lift the arm, like the deltoids and upper trapezius.

Tailored Treatment Plan:

Our treatment strategy included:

Dry Needling and Neuromuscular Technique (NMT): We began by targeting tight spots in the upper trapezius to relieve tension.

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR): We then focused on the supraspinatus muscle to restore proper muscle function.

Sports Massage: We also treated the opposite shoulder to ensure balanced muscle function across both sides.

Results:

After treatment, there was a significant improvement in how the shoulder moved, and the muscle coordination was much better. The pain decreased to a mild discomfort that we expect will continue to improve with proper rest, nutrition, and hydration.

Client Feedback:

“I’m very happy with my treatment. My shoulder feels so much better. Liam was very reassuring, explained everything in a way I understood, and gave me great aftercare advice.”

Conclusion:

At OS Fitness Injury/Recovery Clinic, we ensure a comprehensive approach to not just relieve pain but also to prevent future issues.
